ABOUT US

About Green Paws Behavior Rescue

Welcome to Green Paws Behavior Rescue, The greater Tucson area's newest dog training facility! This veteran-owned company is excited to embark on a mission to strengthen the bond between pets and their families through balanced dog training.

But what exactly does "balanced dog training" mean?

Balanced dog training is a comprehensive and versatile approach that combines positive reinforcement with corrective techniques. At Green Paws Behavior Rescue, we believe in creating a harmonious balance between reward-based methods and gentle corrections to achieve the best results in dog behavior modification.

Positive Reinforcement:

We emphasize positive reinforcement to encourage and reward desired behaviors. This involves using treats, praise, toys, and other positive stimuli to motivate dogs to repeat actions that we want to reinforce. This positive approach fosters a strong bond between the trainer and the dog while creating a positive learning experience.

Corrections and Discipline:

While positive reinforcement is crucial, we also recognize the importance of fair and appropriate corrections to address unwanted behaviors. Corrections are administered with care and respect, ensuring the dog understands the correction is related to the behavior, not a form of punishment. This balanced approach helps to set clear boundaries and expectations for the dog.

Individualized Training Plans:

One size does not fit all in dog training. Each dog is unique, with its own personality, background, and learning style. Our balanced approach allows us to tailor training plans to the specific needs of each dog, taking into account their temperament, history, and the goals of their owner.

Communication and Trust:

Building a trusting relationship between the trainer, the dog, and the owner is at the core of our approach. We communicate effectively with both the dogs and their owners, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and working together towards success.

Results-Driven Approach:

Our balanced dog training methods are designed to achieve lasting results. By addressing both positive and undesirable behaviors in a balanced way, we aim to create well-mannered, happy, and confident dogs that thrive in their human companionship.

Elevated Place Cot:

The Elevated place cot is a great tool used to train place. The "Place" command is valuable for managing a dog's actions in various environments. It teaches the dog to self-soothe and allows them to truly relax. The "place" cot and command can be used in many different locations.

Prong Collar:

The prong collar is another communication tool that will provide a controlled correction. Unlike a flat collar, the prong collar distributes pressure throughout the entire neck instead of putting all of the pressure on the trachea. At our facility, we like to use the Herm Sprenger ULTRA-PLUS Training Collar™  because it has a center-plate (to protect the trachea) and is easy to use. This is a great tool when training loose-leash walking!

Tools used for training

Slip Lead:

The slip lead forms a loop around the dog's neck and the tightness can be controlled by the handler. When a dog is displaying unfavorable behavior the slip lead is a helpful tool used to provide a quick and gentle correction.

Electric Collar:

The electric collar (E-collar) is a fantastic tool used at our training facility. The e-collar gives dogs freedom and confidence. We like to use the Educator ET-300 Mini™ because of all the great features it offers- 1/2 mile range with multiple functions, tone only, vibrate, and 100 different levels of medical grade static stimulation (similar to the TENS machine at the chiropractor). The e-collar is a tool used to enhance communication and reinforce positive behaviors. Never to instill fear or discomfort. This is a great tool for off-leash training!

Assistant Trainer

Katie

Meet Katie, the remarkable 11-year-old Shepherd whose journey from a chaotic past to becoming an integral part of our training team is nothing short of inspiring.

Katie's story began with challenges. She had a reputation for being a bit wild, with a history that included an unfortunate incident with a mailman and a general discomfort around kids. Recognizing the potential within her, our team founder saw an opportunity to transform her life and set her on a new path.

Under the expert guidance of our trainers, Katie underwent a comprehensive behavior modification program. Through patience, positive reinforcement, and a tailored approach to address her specific triggers, Katie began to blossom. The transformation was gradual, but with each passing day, she displayed a newfound calmness and confidence.

As Katie's journey unfolded, it became evident that she possessed an innate understanding of canine behavior. Her experiences became a valuable asset to our training team. Katie's unique insights, coupled with her gentle demeanor, allowed her to connect with dogs on a profound level, especially those facing challenges similar to hers.

Today, Katie is not just a success story; she's an essential member of our training team. Her role extends beyond her own rehabilitation — she serves as a living example of the transformative power of positive training methods. Katie helps build bridges of trust with dogs who may have behavioral issues, showing them that change is possible, and a bright future awaits.

Katie's warm and welcoming presence has become a source of comfort for both dogs and their owners. Her story serves as a reminder that, with the right approach, understanding, and commitment, every dog can find their way to a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Join us at Green Paws and witness the magic that happens when a dog like Katie becomes an essential part of our training family. Because at Green Paws Behavior Rescue, every success story, big or small, contributes to the pawsitive transformations we strive to achieve every day.

    Assistant Trainer

    Annie

Introducing Annie, the resilient 6-year-old black Shepherd whose journey from a world of fear to becoming a vital member of our training team is nothing short of remarkable.

Annie's early days were marked by an overwhelming fear of everything, particularly people. Her anxiety made simple interactions a challenge, and her world seemed confined by the limits of her own trepidation. Recognizing her untapped potential, our team at Green Paws embarked on a mission to help Annie break free from the chains of fear.

Through patient and compassionate training, Annie began to emerge from her shell. With each small victory, her confidence grew, transforming her into a beacon of resilience and hope. Annie's journey became an inspiration not just for our team but for every dog and owner facing similar challenges.

Now, at 6 years old, Annie has not only conquered her fears but has also become an indispensable part of our training team. Her unique perspective, having navigated the intricate path of overcoming deep-seated fears, allows her to connect with dogs facing similar struggles. Annie's gentle approach and understanding demeanor create a comforting space for dogs, helping them build trust and find confidence in their own journeys.

Annie's transformation serves as a testament to the transformative power of patience, positive reinforcement, and unwavering dedication. Her story embodies the spirit of resilience and showcases the incredible potential within every dog, regardless of their past.
